Today we are going to see the Daily Scrum. This is the only Scrum Event which duration is not proportional, that means that it is always time-boxed to 15 minutes independently of how long does the Sprint last. It is important to say that it must be always held at the same time to create a routine and increase predictability.
It is only done by the Development Team. The Scrum Master may ensure that the Development Team has the meeting, remove impediments and teach them to keep the 15 minutes time-box, but he must not take part in the meeting.
The Development Team inspects the work since the last Daily Scrum and forecasts the work to be done in the next 24 hours. How they accomplish it? Each team member explains:
- What was done since the last Daily Scrum.
- What is going to be done for the next 24 hours.
- Which difficulties are in the way.
The Development Team often meets after the Daily Scrum to re-plan the rest of the Sprint’s work to ensure they are progressing towards the Sprint’s goal, increasing the probability to achieve it.
To conclude, we will add that Scrum does not define the Daily Scrum as a status meeting. The Daily Scrum is key to inspect and adapt, improve communications, identify and remove impediments, quick-decision making and to increase the Development Team’s project knowledge.
